For over 60 Years, VARIÉR (formerly Stokke) has been creating it's innovative line of quality seating, with a consistent theme of fusing sound ergonomic concepts - seating that is healthy in use; with bold iconic designs, steeped in the Scandinavian tradition.
Long known for quality, practicality and respect for the environment, decades before being "green" was fashionable, VARIÉR believes it is possible to create seating that is both good for you, good for the planet and exciting to behold.
VARIÉR, through it's designers, pioneered the concepts of balans (kneeling chairs) open body angles, and introduced movement and variation into seating.
But VARIÉR seating is not just good for you. Many ergonomic chairs are frankly dull and uninspired. VARIÉR takes the view that good design can also be bold and inspired. We like to think of our chairs as art. But art for its own sake belongs on the wall. We create art you can use. Art that is good for you.
HISTORY
In 1932 Georg Stokke started manufacturing furniture on the Norwegian west coast, near the famous Geiranger fjord. He was truly innovative, and was amongst the first to employ professional Scandinavian designers. Since then, products have come and gone, and much has happened. However, the simple idea remains the same: If humans can move in a natural way, even when sitting, the body will feel better and possibly also last longer. This is why movement and variation remain the most important thing in everything we produce. When you buy one of our products, you choose one of the healthiest chairs available. Or – as we like to call it – intelligent sitting.
DESIGN
Movement and variation promote and renew strength. Energy, ideas and well-being are released through variation and movement. VARIÉR® has built its unique sitting concept on this principle.
